#5 Isaiah’s Messiah

            This chapter is called Isaiah’s Messiah, because the prophet Isaiah provided such clear descriptions of the visions that God revealed to him about the coming Messiah. In fact, there is not a chapter written in this book that does not reference the Messianic Prophecies of the prophet Isaiah. Also, with the rule of prophecy in mind, it is necessary to note that Isaiah’s prophecies were accurate. He worshipped the only true and living God, Yahweh. Also, Isaiah’s prophecies were consistent with the prophets who came before him and behind him. However, you will also find that Isaiah was able to prophesy with more detail than his contemporaries and some of the prophets who came before him, especially as it pertains to Messianic Prophecy. Let us journey together through the Messianic Prophecies of the prophet Isaiah. We will also point to the other prophets with whom the prophet Isaiah’s Messianic prophecies share consistency.

·      The first Messianic Prophecy found in Isaiah is found in the second chapter. Isaiah 2:1-5 KJV reads as follows:

1The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. (KJV)

·      The Messianic Prophecy found in Isaiah 2:1-5 shows consistency with the Messianic prophecy given by king David in the 2nd Psalm that reads as follows:

1Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (KJV)

·      In both Isaiah and David’s Messianic prophecy there is the telling of a coming king who will be the Anointed One. They both foretell that the Messiah will judge the nations. He will reprove, rebuke, and give instruction to many. Notice that in David’s 2nd Psalm prophesies that the Anointed One will be set up as King of kings, but God also identifies him as his begotten Son. In the twelfth verse David admonishes the reader to kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way…” This alludes to the reality that the reader must become intimately known by the Son. The same verse also suggest that the reader can only be blessed by trusting in the Son. In Isaiah 9: 1-7, the prophet also shares consistency with the Messianic Prophecy found in the 2nd Psalm, and it reads as follows:

1 But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. 2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. 3 You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. 5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. (KJV)

·      From this passage alone, we can observe that four of the seven themes discussed this book are present. For example:

o   The Uncreated Light (Isaiah 9: 2).

o   The Son (Isaiah 9: 6)

o   The Promised Seed (Isaiah 9: 6-7).

o   King of Kings (Isaiah 9:7).

·      Jesus was born Bethlehem, but he was raised beyond the Jordan in the city of Galilee just as Isaiah prophesied (see 9: 1-7).

·      In Isaiah 53:1-12 KJV, we see that Isaiah provided a vivid description of the Messiah being lead as a lamb to the slaughter. This is the sacrifice that Jesus Christ, the Messiah, would make to pay the sin debt for all those who believed and received him. From this information we can see that Isaiah is also one of the prophets who upholds the Messianic Truth that the Messiah is the Lamb of God, which is the highlighted in the previous chapter. Isaiah 53:1-12 reads as follows:

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. ·      Isaiah 53:1-12 bear consistency with what unfolded in the life of Jesus Christ when he was crucified (see Mat. 16:21; Mat. 26: 17-32).

·      Isaiah 11: 1-12 is also a passage of Scripture that describes the reign of Christ as the King of Kings, but it also alludes to the reason why Isaiah called him the Prince of Peace. And it reads as follows:

1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. 5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. 6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. 10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. 11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. 12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. From the evidence in this passage, we can see evidence that Jesus Christ is the Messiah that Isaiah said would come. From this study, we gather that Isaiah’s Messianic Prophecies share consistency with the prophets who came before and behind him. Isaiah’s Messianic Prophecies also proved to be true, in that they were fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ

            Heavenly Father, thank you for the word that you shared through your servant Isaiah and the other prophets. Thank you for being faithful throughout the ages. Thank you for your plan to save us through your only begotten Son, Jesus the Christ. Be with us as we continue to seek your face, who is Jesus the Christ. I the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

·      یسعیاہ 11: 1-12 بھی صحیفے کا ایک حوالہ ہے جو بادشاہوں کے بادشاہ کے طور پر مسیح کی حکومت کو بیان کرتا ہے، لیکن یہ اس وجہ کی طرف بھی اشارہ کرتا ہے کہ یسعیاہ نے اسے امن کا شہزادہ کیوں کہا۔ اور یہ اس طرح پڑھتا ہے:

1 اور یسّی کے تنے سے ایک چھڑی نکلے گی، اور اس کی جڑوں سے ایک شاخ نکلے گی: 2 اور خداوند کی روح اس پر ٹھہرے گی، حکمت اور سمجھ کی روح، مشورے اور طاقت کی روح، علم کی روح اور خداوند کے خوف کی روح۔ 3 اور خُداوند کے خوف سے اُسے جلد سمجھ میں لائے گا اور وہ اپنی آنکھوں کے سامنے نہ فیصلہ کرے گا اور نہ اپنے کانوں کے سننے کے بعد ملامت کرے گا: 4 لیکن وہ راستی سے غریبوں کا انصاف کرے گا اور زمین کے حلیموں کو انصاف کے ساتھ ملامت کرے گا اور وہ اپنے منہ کی چھڑی سے زمین کو مارے گا اور اپنے منہ کی چھڑی سے زمین کو مارے گا۔ 5 اور راستبازی اُس کی کمر کی پٹی ہو گی اور وفاداری اُس کی لگام کا کمربند ہو گی۔ 6 بھیڑیا بھی میمنے کے ساتھ رہے گا اور تیندوا بچے کے ساتھ لیٹ جائے گا۔ اور بچھڑا اور جوان شیر اور موٹا ایک ساتھ۔ اور ایک چھوٹا بچہ ان کی رہنمائی کرے گا۔ 7 اور گائے اور ریچھ چرائیں گے۔ اُن کے بچے ایک ساتھ لیٹ جائیں گے اور شیر بَیل کی طرح بھوسا کھائے گا۔ 8 اور چوسنے والا بچہ اسپ کے سوراخ پر کھیلے گا اور دودھ چھڑانے والا بچہ اپنا ہاتھ کاکٹریس کی ماند پر رکھے گا۔ 9 وہ میرے تمام مُقدّس پہاڑ کو نہ نقصان پہنچائیں گے اور نہ تباہ کریں گے کیونکہ زمین خُداوند کے علم سے معمور ہو گی جیسے پانی سمندر کو ڈھانپے گا۔ 10 اور اُس دن یسّی کی ایک جڑ ہو گی جو لوگوں کے نشان کے لیے کھڑی ہو گی۔ غیر قومیں اس کی تلاش کریں گی: اور اس کا آرام جلالی ہو گا۔ 11 اور اُس دِن یُوں ہو گا کہ خُداوند اپنی قوم کے بقیہ کو جو اسور سے اور مصر سے اور پاتھروس اور کُش اور عیلام سے اور شِنار اور حمات سے اور سمندر کے جزیروں سے باقی رہ جائیں گے بازیافت کرنے کے لیے دوبارہ اپنا ہاتھ دوبارہ چلائے گا۔ 12 اور وہ قوموں کے لئے ایک جھنڈا کھڑا کرے گا اور اسرائیل کے نکالے گئے لوگوں کو جمع کرے گا اور یہوداہ کے منتشر لوگوں کو زمین کے چاروں کونوں سے جمع کرے گا۔ (KJV)

اس حوالے کے شواہد سے، ہم اس بات کا ثبوت دیکھ سکتے ہیں کہ یسوع مسیح وہی مسیحا ہے جس کے بارے میں یسعیاہ نے کہا تھا کہ آئے گا۔ اس مطالعہ سے، ہم جمع کرتے ہیں کہ یسعیاہ کی مسیحائی پیشین گوئیاں ان انبیاء کے ساتھ مطابقت رکھتی ہیں جو اس سے پہلے اور پیچھے آئے تھے۔ یسعیاہ کی مسیحائی پیشین گوئیاں بھی سچ ثابت ہوئیں، کیونکہ وہ یسوع مسیح کی زندگی میں پوری ہوئیں
