[18] And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. [19] Out of Jacob shall come he that shall f have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city. …”

·      In Malachi 4: 1-6, the prophet Malachi identifies the Messiah as the Sun of Righteousness. And it reads:

[1] … For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. [2] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. [3] And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts. [4] Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. [5] Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord : [6] And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. (KJV)

·      In Revelation 22: 16 (KJV), Jesus reveals to the apostle John and the seven churches in Asia Minor that he is the Bright and Morning Star. Jesus said, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”

·      In John 1: 1-10 (KJV), the apostle John identified Jesus Christ as the Word of God, who is God, and was with God in the beginning. Here, the apostle John also identified Jesus as the True Light that lightest every man that comes into the world. And it reads:

[1] … In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men. [5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. [6] There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. [7] The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. [8] He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. [9] That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. [10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. (KJV)

·      In Luke 10:18 (KJV), Luke the physician records where Jesus testified that he saw Satan fall like lightning. 

We know that, chronologically, Satan must have fallen sometime between Genesis 1:16 (where the stars were created) and Genesis 3 (where the serpent deceived Eve). Satan was one of the created lights that was mentioned in Genesis 1: 16. How do we know this? In Isaiah 14:12, the prophet Isaiah says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!” The name Lucifer means bearer of light. Therefore, Satan was created as a bearer of light. His job was to reflect light. However, Jesus is the uncreated Light who was there from the beginning, and he saw Satan fall from heaven like lightening. 

The Coptic Church (Egyptian) holds to the tradition that the original Nicene Creed was authored by St. Athanasius I of Alexandria in 325 A. D. Notice what St. Athanasius wrote about Jesus the Christ in the Nicene Creed:

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

The old saints used to sing the hymn “Jesus, the Light of the World.” They said, “Hark! the herald angels sing:

Jesus, the light of the world. Glory to the newborn King, Jesus, the light of the world. We’ll walk in the light, beautiful light. Come where the dewdrops of mercy shine bright. Shine all around us by day and by night. Jesus, the light of the world (Wesley & Elderkin)

In the book of Revelation 21:23, the apostle John is given this revelation from Jesus himself that describes how “The Lamb is the light thereof.” This is a phrase from Revelation 21:23, which describes The New Jerusalem being illuminated by Jesus Christ, Lamb of God, making the sun and moon unnecessary. There will be no sun or moon in the New Jerusalem, because “The Lamb is the light thereof.” With the consistency and accuracy of the prophets, we can conclude that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and we can conclude that the Messiah is the (Uncreated) Light.

Let us pray,

            Heavenly Father, thank you for your providence of the Messiah and your guidance to the Messiah. Throughout the prophets, you have consistently and accurately pointed us toward the Messiah and his truth. Throughout this chapter, we find that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and we find that the Messiah is the Uncreated Light. Thank you, Lord, for the grace and truth of our Messiah who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus the Christ we pray, Amen.
